Alfred James Cogdill, 75 of Midland passed away September 2, 2016 peacefully with his wife and children by his side. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Belvue Church of Christ, in Stanton, Texas at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton.The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening at the Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton.Alfred was born January 17, 1941 in Fort Davis, Texas to Rena Tomlinson Cogdill and Harvey William Cogdill. He was known for his playful personality, his great sense of humor, quick wit and sharp mind. Alfred was generous with his time and his heart with both people and animals. He loved gardening, reading, anything involving working with his hands, and politics and current events.He proudly served in Seoul, South Korea in the United States Army from 1958-1963. During his last year of service, he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was awarded medals for sharpshooting, marksmanship and good conduct. He began his military career as a radio operator and advanced to Military Police. He was assigned to Military Escort Detail for dignitaries and was attached to President Eisenhower’s Escort Detail. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.He returned to his home state of Texas where he eventually settled in the Midland area. He retired from Phillips Petroleum in 1992, as a Mechanical Engineering Foreman. His career involved developing multiple different processes for oil and gas.Alfred returned to college late in life and received a degree in Petroleum Engineering and Industrial Mechanics from Midland College. He was on the Dean’s List every semester while working full time and taking care of his family.He was married for 35 years to the love of his life, Kathy Adams Cogdill. They shared a full life with their ranch animals, pets, friends and most importantly family. His favorite thing to do was to sit at the kitchen table with his wife, Kathy, drink coffee and talk about life and politics.He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his three children, Rena Cogdill Frost and husband, Howard of Colleyville, Harvey Cogdill of Hurst, and Carl Cogdill of Hurst; his step-children, Christina Reyes and husband, Raymond of Rocksprings, Michael Adams and wife, Keshia of Odessa, Michelle McClure and husband, Dusty of Killeen; his two granddaughters, six step-grandchildren , three great- grandsons and many nieces and nephews. His sisters Manda Harkey and husband Arnold Bueno of Fort Stockton and Lena Rowland and husband Robert of San Angelo.The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org or the Disabled Veterans of America at www.dav.orgArrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
