Alfred Clay "Jake" Parker, 65, of Big Spring, died on Monday, August 4, 2008, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at theTrinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Mike Couch, of First Baptist Church, officiating.He was born on June 19, 1943, in Howard County, Texas and lived most of his life in Howard County. Jake graduated from Big Spring High School, had attended Howard College and later Midland College. He had worked at various jobs during his life. He attended the Church of God and served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1964.Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Marie Withrow of Columbia, Missouri; his mother, Edith Polly McDaniel of Big Spring; one sister, Linda Sue Parker Dorsey of Centerville, Virginia; one brother, John Michael Parker of Hickson, Tennesee; one aunt, Virginia Davidson of Big Spring; one uncle, Richard Andrew Tucker of Arlington; three granddaughters and a number of cousins.He was preceded in death by his father, J. E. Parker. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, rolyn Brooks, P.O. Box 2121, Big Spring, TX 79721-2121 or to the American Heart Association, 3205 W. When I was a child, Jake was my dashing older cousin. I adored him but he was 20 years older than me and never paid me any mind. When I got older, he treated me like an adult introducing me to good music and spiriting me away for an afternoon at the mall to get me away from the adults. As adults, we never got to see each other because he was in Texas and I was in Ohio but I got to see him again about 10 years ago. He was still my dashing older cousin and I found I still adored him. Hello Family, I am so saddened by the passing of Alfred (as we knew him at the University). I just wanted to tell you all that he was such a delightful student. It is fun to have a student who really wants to learn and who is always prepare and that was certainly Alfred. Our Psychology department is certainly in mourning, but we are richer for having had such a fine student and a great guy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Bob and I will always remember Jakie as a young teenager, as a neighbor, and often attended the youth activities at the Church of God. The Parkers were our neighbors, and J. E. built our house on State Street. I thought a lot of Jakie and his sister, Linda, and brother, Mike. J. E. and Polly were good parents, and friends of ours. Bob & Margaret

Aunt Polly, we are so very sorry that we are unable to be there for you. Some of my very first memories include Jakie, Linda Judy and myself. I know first hand the sorrow of losing a child and I can tell you the pain will never go away, but it does dull a bit. We love you so much and ask God to bless you. Terrye and Bill

"Jake" was a fine man who exhibited splendid behavior and uncommon courage during his illness. He was a fine lunch companion and excellent conversationalist. He isa sorely missed already.

Jakes service in the navy makes him one of americas heros. He will be missed.
