Albert "Al" Russell Mayo, 93, of Midland, formerly of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 29, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Randy Cotton, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.He was born on October 25, 1913, in Nevada, Texas and married Phyllis Rosalie Avet on April 19, 1941 in Houma, Louisiana. Al and Phyllis were married for 64 years. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2005.Al served in the United States Navy during World War II on the Battleship USS Alabama. He retired from Texaco in 1977 after 41 years of service. He worked as a rig builder offshore South Louisiana and worked many years as a pumper in the oilfields of East and West Texas. He was a member of Kelview Baptist Church in Midland and previously a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring.Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Colette Mayo of Edmond, Oklahoma; three sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Beverly Mayo of Midland, Mike and Brenda Mayo of Garland, and Bob and Diann Mayo of Miles; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Borden Gray of Borden County, and Susan and Sammy Reed of Midland; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Mayo; one sister, Margaret Howard; and one grandson, Barry Mayo.
