Al M. Sommers III, 72, of Midland, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with Monsignor James Bridges officiating.Al was born on March 8, 1941, to Jack and Leatha Sommers in Memphis, Tenn. He attended Catholic High School in Memphis and graduated in 1959. Following graduation he attended The University of Notre Dame and graduated with his Bachelor's degree in finance and English in 1963. He then earned his Master's degree in banking from Louisiana State University and began a 40-year career in banking and finance in Memphis and Midland. He also served his country with the U.S. Army Reserve for seven years. Al enjoyed cooking, reading, music, golf and, most of all, watching Notre Dame football. He loved his family and friends dearly, and was fondly called \Paw Paw\ by his 10 grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Rachel Sommers of Midland; son, Al M. Sommers IV and wife Renee of Austin; daughter, Cynthia Freeman and husband Scott of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren: Zachary, Jordan and Carson Sommers; and Taylor, Haley, Allie, Jack, Matthew, Casey and Charlie Freeman.He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Leatha Sommers, and brother, Joseph R.
