Afton Christine Ellis, former resident of Big Spring, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in Bastrop, Texas. She was 89 years old.She was born in Wilmeth, Texas to Lillian Roy and Mary Josephine Condra Bowen on September 26, 1927. She attended and graduated from Ballinger High School and married Jack Floyd Ellis Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis moved to Abilene and lived there for 2 years and moved to Big Spring in 1948 where Mr. Ellis went to work for Cosden Refinery. Mrs. Ellis was a homemaker and mother and grandmother. She loved sewing and gardening and serving in PTA and school functions when her son started attending East Ward Elementary and later at Elbow and Forsan schools. She moved to Bryan-College Station, Texas in 1997 and lived there until her husband passed away and eventually moved to Bastrop.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack in 1999, one grandson, Brett Alan Ellis; and a brother G.W. Bowen. She is survived by one son, Jack F. Ellis and his wife, Cheri of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Janet Kay Lewis and husband, Bill of LaGrange, Texas; two grandsons, Erik Ellis and wife, Jamie and their children, Ciera, Brandt and Hayden of Ludowici, Georgia, and Chris Lewis and wife, Julie and their children, Lane and Callen of Pickton, Texas; one granddaughter, Stephanie Gilchrist and husband, Elton and their children, Dario and Emily of Stockdale, Texas; and two sisters, Mary Rice of Arlington, Texas and Corine Dean of New Braunfels, Texas.Family visitation will take place Sunday December 4, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.The family would like to thank the staff of Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing and Rehab Center and Heart to Heart Hospice of Austin, Texas for their love and care of Mrs. Ellis during her brief stay at the facility.
