Abelardo “Abel” Jose Hilario, 45, of McAllen, TX, formerly of Big Spring, TX, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at his residence in Big Spring, TX.
Abel was born on December 27, 1977, in Big Spring, Texas, to Herminia “Minnie” Diaz and Abelardo Hilario Sr. After graduating from Big Spring High School in 1997, he went on to college to study accounting. In 2001, he became a proud and devoted father to his son Alejandro Hilario. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In 2007, he moved his family to McAllen, TX. Abel was employed by Spectrum and was a dedicated and dependable employee. He was best known for his humble and sweet character. Abel enjoyed being with family and friends, biking, watching movies and sports, and was a huge San Francisco 49ers fan.
Abel is survived by his significant other, Mirta Calvillo, his son, Alejandro Hilario, his bonus daughter, Matilda Irvin, two sisters, Leticia Lopez, and husband, Rickey Lopez, Dora Hernandez and husband, Ernest Rodriguez, two brothers, Gilbert Hernandez and wife, Sue Hernandez, all of Big Spring, and Joe Hernandez and wife Lennet Hernandez, from Amarillo, TX. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, his dear friends Jennifer Desiga and April Sanchez, and an amazing extended family in South Texas, Cynthia and Julio Casas, DJ and Janet Desiga, Robert and Katherine Cavazos, and Domingo Desiga.
Abel is preceded in death by his mother, Herminia Diaz, father, Abelardo Hilario Sr., three sisters, Lydia “Lisa” Hernandez, Esther Hernandez, Frances Hernandez, and nephew Moses Canales, all of Big Spring, and brother John Hernandez of Houston, TX.
In memory of Abel, a viewing is scheduled on August 18, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 3:30 pm at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Hilario, Feliciano Hernandez, Nick Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, Brandon Hernandez, and Jimmy Hernandez.
