Woody Joe Jackson, 76 of Midland passed away on Sunday, January 12th, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be on Friday, January 24th, 2025, at the Horseshoe Arena at 2:00pm.
Woody was born on November 25th, 1948, in Altus, OK to James and Viola Jackson. Woody grew up in Altus and graduated from Altus HS in 1967. While in High School he participated in basketball, track and football, but particularly lived and breathed football. He participated in musical plays, enjoyed going to Lake Altus and had many friends he enjoyed hanging out with. He received an associate’s degree from Altus Junior College and joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1974 as a Communications Dispatcher. He then attended the DPS Training Academy, graduating as a State Trooper with the Class of A-75. He was first stationed in Highway Patrol in Midland, transferred to Sinton for a brief time and returned to Midland permanently in 1978. He worked the roads as a Highway Patrol trooper and eventually retired as a License & Weight Corporal in 2002. After retirement he went to work as a court deputy at the Federal Courthouse in Midland and then onto Briley Trucking as their Safety Coordinator for another 15 years before officially retiring in 2022. During his career he survived several harrowing events including being electrocuted (prior to DPS) and being struck by a vehicle while investigating an accident during icy conditions.
Woody is survived by his brother, Rickey Jackson, his loving wife, Debbie Jackson, their daughter Misty Dublin; their daughter Tiffany Blalock and husband Charles; their son Justin Jackson and wife Ashley; their son-in-law, Damon Dublin . He is survived by 13 grandchildren, Shae’na McLelland and husband Billy, Shawnda Rooney and husband Aaron, Makenzi Dublin and Jocelyn Dublin, Shayla Jackson, Wesley Blalock, Brandon Blalock and James Blalock, Allyson Jackson, Taylor Jackson, Mikayla Jackson, Stetson
Jackson, and Hayven Jackson. Also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Hadyn, Olivia, and Jaxon and by two nephews, Tobin Jackson, Kane Jackson and one niece, Natalie Harris.
Woody is preceded in death by his parents, James and Viola and his two brothers, Gary and Gaylon.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards our families, our DPS family, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Midland Police Dept, Briley Trucking, and all of our special friends who have uplifted us in prayer and support, as well as the caring staff at Permian General Hospital in Andrews, Tx and Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Tx for their heroic efforts to save him.
