Willie C. Jones, Sr., 86, affectionately known as Red or Dub, was born on March 16, 1929 on a farm in Calvert, Texas to Ben and Cleo Jones. On April 30, following a lengthy battle with illness, he hung up his cowboy hat for the last time.Red attended Morning Star School and worked on the family farm at a very early age. Any free time he had was spent hunting and riding horses. That led to his love for collecting guns. On a hot summer day while playing baseball, he met his future wife, Peggie Killings, and on November 14, 1947 they were married on her parent’s porch. They were blessed to have seven children.Willie united with Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church over 30 years ago.Dub was never one to procrastinate when it came to providing for his family. He became a bricklayer for Kirksey Construction and after 40 years he retired as Lead Foreman and an all-around know-it-all. Sitting around and holding his tongue, was never something he was known for. So, shortly after retirement (and giving everybody unsolicited advice) he decided to help Wootie oversee the daycare! It didn’t take long for all the kids to start calling him “Papa”. Whenever he went anywhere nobody could ever be sure who his real family was because his grandkids were every color of the rainbow! His memory will forever be cherished and his legacy will forever be honored by his devoted wife of 68 years Peggie Jones; two sons, Willie Jones, Jr., (Patricia) of Fort Worth, TX; Freddie Jones (Shirley) of Midland, TX; five daughters, Helen Price (Russell) of Midland, TX; Ulyse Wallace (Allen) of Lafayette, LA; Peggy Ivy (Calvin) of Albuquerque, NM; Yolanda Anders (Terrance) and Beverly Harrison (Kevin) both of Midland, TX; two sisters, Vergia Johnson (Emmitt) of Fort Worth, TX; and Urmer Reed (Edwin) of Desoto, TX; two brothers, Darrell Jones (Adrian) of Calvert, TX; and Bennie Lee Jones (Mable) of Fort Worth, TX; 16 grandchildren, Tyra Clemons (Kerry) of Arlington, TX; Katrieva Munroe (Presley) of Odessa, TX; Allison Wallace and Ashley Cleaver (Jacobi), both of Houston, TX; Monica Irving (Ryan) of Fort Worth, TX; Robert Morris III (Miriam), Freddie Jones, Jr., Taylor and Tye Anders, all of Midland, TX; Tyler and Terrance Ivy of Albuquerque, NM; Kierra, Kadyn, and Kaci Harrison, also of Midland, TX; Braggston Morris of Denver, CO; and Stephen Price (Jessica) of San Angelo, TX. He also leaves 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and host of relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Verdell Frazier; brothers, Ulyssee, Harvey, John, and Charlie Jones; daughter, Velma Cooper and grandson, Brandon Morris.Red is up there seasoning his ribs and firing up the pit, because Ulyssee Harvey, and John just told Charlie to start up the Trans Am and tell Brandon “Let’s go!” The Jones Boys Are Together Again. There will be a viewing on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 8:00AM to 9:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00AM at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Midland with Pastor Kenneth G. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.,
