William “Bill” Glenn Kerr, III, of Midland Texas passed away on Sunday, December 29th, 2024.
Bill was born on May 11th, 1949, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to William Glenn Kerr, II and Lily Evelyn Kerr. As a child, Bill loved all things outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and playing sports at his beloved Harrisburg High School where he was the Senior Class President and standout running back for the fighting Hornets. Bill maintained daily contact with his close friends in Harrisburg and faithfully made the pilgrimage back for the annual homecoming festivities. After graduating from Harrisburg High School in 1967, Bill attended State College of Arkansas, in Conway, Arkansas, where he played football. In June of 1968, Bill and his best friend, Charles Singleton, enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from June of 1968 to November of 1971. He received his honorable discharge with the rank of Petty Officer, Third Class. He received the National Defense Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Nam Service Medal, and Vietnam Nam Campaign Medal. After completing his service, Bill attended Arkansas State University, where he graduated in May of 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business. Bill’s professional career included various sales positions with regional companies located in Dallas, Texas, including Cheesborough-Ponds, Inc. and Oneida Ltd. After moving to Midland in 1990, Bill founded Permian Basin Home Inspections, where he worked as a home inspector until he retired in 2018. Bill enjoyed his work as a home inspector, but he loved the friendships he made with his clients along the way even more. Bill was a legendary collector and would never miss the opportunity to pursue an estate sale, garage sale, or auction. He never, ever turned away a “good deal”. Bill’s greatest love, however, was his daughter, Vickie, and his grandchildren, Wyatt and Emily June. Bill never missed a sporting event, concert, recital, or party. He was a permanent fixture at anything and everything the kids participated in. He also lived less than a block away. As such, Bill quickly earned a reputation as the premier supplier of all junk food, snacks or “gee-dunks” and the neighborhood kids took advantage. His generosity was limitless. He was always thinking of others. There’s a high probability that if you are reading this, and you knew Bill, he saw something that reminded him of you and gave it to you. Probably from an estate sale.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Vickie Doss and husband Zach, and their children Wyatt and Emily June of Midland, Texas. Sister Janet Bantel of Memphis, Tennessee, sister Carolyn Conner and husband Danny of Greenbrier, Arkansas, brother John Kerr and wife Sandy of San Angelo, Texas.
Bill is preceded in death by his father William Glenn Kerr, II, and mother Lily Evelyn Kerr.
A memorial service will be held at The Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Cherry Valley, Arkansas on Friday, March 28, 2025.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the nursing staff of the 5th floor of Midland Memorial Hospital. Your exceptional attention and diligent care for Bill was greatly appreciated and we are thankful that all of you made his last days comfortable for him.
