Weldon Lee TaylorDecember 23, 1930 – May 16, 2011Weldon was born on a stormy night in Gunter, Texas and since Dan and Minabell didn't have enough money to pay the doctor, they bartered with him for millet seed. Weldon attended high school in Sherman, Texas where he was a cheerleader. He served in the US Navy from 1950 until 1954. After his duty in the Navy, Weldon enrolled at Texas Tech University where he met the love of his life Betty Harry. He worked at Hemphill Wells and at the Ford house in order to have money for school and to court Betty. He and Betty were married on May 26, 1956. In 1964, Weldon, Betty, Cindy and Perry moved to Midland. He served as deacon at Crestview Baptist Church and Fannin Terrace Baptist Church and later became a member of First Baptist Church. He read scripture to the children at the breakfast table each morning. He was lovingly called Buttercup or Butter by many of his family members. He loved to hunt and fish. Weldon was always encouraging to his loved ones, but his greatest strengths were faithful advice and wisdom.Weldon was a hard worker all of his life. He began working as a young boy mowing yards for money. After graduating Texas Tech, he worked for Travelers Insurance Company for many years. He managed repossessed houses and sold excess inventory before starting his own business, Weldon Taylor Realtors. He also owned Weldon Taylor's Realty USA and Weldon Taylor Appraisals. He held the RM designation in the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the SRA designation from the Appraisal Institute. He served as President of the Board of Realtors in 1972 and as State Director for the Texas Association of Realtors. Survivors include his wife Betty; daughter, Cindy and husband Jeff Harper; sons, Perry and wife Anna Taylor and Forrest Taylor; two precious grandchildren, JD Harper and Cristin Harper, both seniors at Texas A&M University.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 6:30 until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Midland with Dr. Randel Everett and Rev. David Johnson of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.,
