Wayne Helms, 68, of Midland, Texas, suddenly passed from this world unto the Lord on Monday April 17, 2023. Services will be held at Stonegate Fellowship on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00AM.

Wayne was born in Rotan, Texas in 1954 to Clarence Helms and Shirley Byrom. He married the absolute love of his life, Tonya Helms, May 9th, 1974 and had two beautiful daughters, Shellie Crossland and Tasha Ramos. His love for Tonya, Shellie and Tasha were immense, undeniable and without question. Wayne’s love for his family was his greatest asset. Wayne loved traveling the world with his wife and the deep love he held for his friends and family was unmatched. He held his numerous friends and colleagues in the highest regard and valued them deeply. Wayne was a friend to everyone he met and those who knew him cherished their bond.

Wayne is survived by his mother, Shirley Byrom, his beautiful wife Tonya Helms and his two daughters and their husbands, Shellie & Cody Crossland and Tasha & Joel Ramos. Wayne also leaves behind six grandchildren, Celeste Helms, Hailey Chavarria, Xavier Ramirez, Hayden Crossland, Devyn Smith, Kyndall Ramos and two great grandchildren, Jackson Cabrera and Toni Guerra. They were his entire world and his greatest accomplishment in life. He was an amazing husband, father, son, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and father figure. His passing will forever be felt and greatly missed.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Clarence Helms.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The West Texas Food Bank in Midland, Texas.

I'm so blessed to have called you Dad. You were one of the greatest men I have ever known. Thanks for making me the woman I am today. Thank you for teaching me the importance of family. Thank you for teaching me the joy of traveling. Thank you for teaching me that honesty is always the best policy. Thank you for the honor of allowing me to work with you everyday for 15 years & teaching me to follow in your career footsteps. Seems that you taught me everything I know...except how to live without you. This will be the hardest lesson yet. I'm so grateful that God chose you to be my father. I will love & cherish your memory forever. I love you, Dad. Thank you for everything. Until we meet again... I just found out that Wayne passed. I thought he was the most incredible person. He was always so kind to me and supported my small business. I cannot tell you how much that meant to me. I’m thankful to have known him even for the small amount of time that I did. I’m praying for his daughters and his family. He was an incredible man. I’m thankful to have learned someone who made the Midland business community what it was. Thank you Wayne.

My sweet Papa, I don’t know how I will ever get over this loss but I do know I will hold everything you taught me and felt for me near. I know the woman you helped mold me to be and I will be better. You were my advisor for anything life threw at me and my home and my constant in a forever changing world. You were my soul and I want to continue to be the woman you helped shaped me to be. I met Wayne when I graduated and became a geologist in 2007. I was green as they came, and Wayne took the time to treat me a kindness and professionalism that stuck with me my entire life. I cannot imagine how many others he positively affected in his life and our industry.

Tanya, I am deeply saddened with your loss of Wayne. I am forever grateful the Lord allowed us time to spend together and share memories before the Lord ushered him into heaven. My prayers are with you and your sweet family.

Too soon. Wayne was a staunch supporter and volunteer within the geoscience community. His participation and leadership will be missed. The family and friends are in our prayers. He now walks with Jesus and the angels.
