Wayne Bartlett, 83, lifetime resident of Howard County, died July 4, 2017, in Big Spring, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 7th, at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Big Spring, Texas with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor, and Dennis Etheredge, officiating. Visitation will follow in the church parlor.He was born July 9, 1933 in Big Spring, Texas. He married Jamie Walker, October 24, 1952, who preceded him in death, and then married Mary Smith, November 24, 1983, who also preceded him in death. He then married Sandra Rhodes, February 4, 2006. Wayne moved from the oilfields of Forsan in 1941 to Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1950. He attended Howard College and Texas Tech. He began working for Cosden Petroleum Corporation in December 1952, and he retired in 1996 from Fina after forty four years as a land man, division order supervisor, and pipeline patrol pilot. He was a member of the Cosden 25 Year Club, the Airport Development Board, Joint Airport Zoning Board, and the Cosden Credit Union Board for nineteen years. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church.Wayne loved The Lord Jesus Christ, his family and enjoyed airplanes, motorcycles, camping, hunting, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Bartlett, one daughter and son-in-law, Lindy and Craig Knappe of San Angelo, two grandsons, Christopher Bartlett Knappe and wife, Kori, of San Angelo, and Zachary Wayne Knappe and wife, Jenna, of San Angelo, and extended family: daughter and son-in-law, Neasa and Brandon Iden of Big Spring, son, Jeff Rhodes of Louisiana, one brother-in-law Dwight Neas and wife George Ann of North Carolina, and four grandchildren, Berkley, Brayden, and Braxton Iden, and Brynlea Rhodes.Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents, H.W. and Ethel Bartlett, his brother Rev. H.W. Bartlett and wife Clara, and step-daughter Melissa Lovelace.The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 705 West Marcy, Big Spring, TX 79720 , Gideon’s International or a charity of your choice.
