Virginia (Barber) Bryant, 94, formerly of Big Spring, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2022 at Mason Creek Transitional Care of Katy, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 9, 2022 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor, will be officiating. Prior to the services, a visitation time with family members will be from 12:30 – 1:45 PM in the church parlor. Interment at Trinity Memorial Park will immediately follow the services.
Virginia was born on September 2, 1928 in Jay, Florida, to the late V. C. Barber and Jennie (Daughtery) Barber. Upon graduation from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, Virginia was given the opportunity to visit family in Texas. What a great graduation gift! Little did her parents know that it would be while visiting her cousins, Virginia met the love of her life, Neal Bryant. Soon the two were married and enjoyed lifelong experiences together and with friends and family for almost 69 years. Early years of marriage provided many moves as various job opportunities after WWII were scattered throughout the South Plains-West Texas area. No matter the task, or job, the two were always a couple supporting each other and eventually made Big Spring their home. In December of 1952, God granted them a son, Robert (Bob) Bryant, and they provided a loving home – always open to any new friends or classmates he might invite over.
During Bob’s JH-HS days, Virginia started school training and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She and Neal were active members of the First Baptist Church in Big Spring. Teaching and helping in all things from Sunday School to Children’s Ministry, College Student ministry; if the doors were open, they were in attendance. This was their church home – made up of many new and cherished lifelong friends. One of their greatest joys was being active in Campers on Mission for over 20 years. Virginia chose the name “Granny” for her grandchildren and thusly for her great-grandchildren. Granny’s legacy of faith, humor and joy lives on in each one (and in most people who knew her).
Virginia was the widow of R. Neal Bryant who went to be with our Lord on May 2, 2015.
She is survived by her son, Robert V. “Bob” Bryant and wife, Felice of Katy; three grandchildren, R. Nathan Bryant and wife, Christina of Jackson, Mississippi, Natalie Boening and husband, Matt of Schertz, and Noel Bryant and wife, Kate of Salem, Oregon; seven great-grandchildren, Zeke and Maggie Bryant, Alison, Jacob, and Emily Boening, Lucy and Mollie Bryant; one sister, Lolita Grimes of Plano, and extended family members and friends.
