Victor Zavila Zapata Sr. was born to Maria de Jesus Davila de Zapata and Jose Zapata in Piedras Negras, Cuahiila Mexico on December 23, 1951. Victor grew up with 4 siblings. two brothers Manuel Zapata, and Jose (Pepe) Zapata, along with two sisters Griselda (Chela) Esquivel Zapata and Maria del Carmen Zapata that he would adore for his 74 years of life. He and his siblings bonded through singing and playing music together as young kids. This would ignite his love for music for the duration of his life.
At 18 years old Victor met his wife Margarita Garcia Zapata and they shared 3 children together Juanita (Maggie) Zapata Coronado, Victor Zapata Jr, and Xavier Zapata. Victor worked a number of jobs starting with working at a gas station with his brothers in Eagle Pass, TX, then as a janitor for Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center in Eagle Pass, TX. He would then move his family to Big Spring, TX where he worked as a cotton gin worker and then Gibsons Grocery store as a maintenance worker. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family that he adored. Eventually he would live the American dream by opening a successful custodial company in Big Spring, TX. Victor and Margarita eventually parted ways.
Victor found a companion Mayela Cantu and restarted his life in Midland, TX. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for The Clusters Apartments for many years. Victor was a very involved grandfather, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren to Rockhound games as well as Odessa Jackalopes games. He definitely was charismatic and knew how to make the people in his life feel spoiled and loved. Victor loved the Dallas Cowboys and his Sundays were reserved for football. He was also always up for a trip to the casino.
Our beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend went to be with the Lord on January 18 of 2026 after complications from covid.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents Maria de Jesus Davila de Zapata and Jose Zapata, his beloved brother Jose (Pepe) Zapata Jr, his nephew Elias Esquivel, and his daughter Juanita (Maggie) Coronado.
Victor is survived by his sisters Griselda (Chela) Esquivel from Eagle Pass, TX, Maria de Carmen Zapata from Eagle Pass, TX and his brother Manuel Zapata from Eagle Pass, TX, his 2 sons Victor Zapata Jr from Midland, TX and Xavier Zapata from Midland, TX, his son in law Miguel Coronado from Midland, TX, grandchildren Mikey Coronado from Midland, TX, Christina Mendoza from Midland, TX, Brianna Williams from Midland, TX, Marcos Coronado from San Antonio, TX ,Xavier Zapata Jr from Midland, TX, Daniel Zapata from Midland, TX and Nathaniel Zapata from Midland, TX, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
