Verla Rae (Anderson) Doggett, of Stanton, TX, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at her home. Verla was born September 24, 1927, to Mike and Vela Anderson, in Stanton. She attended the Stanton Schools. On May 15, 1950, Verla married James Richard Doggett and they made their home in Stanton, where Verla worked at the Post Office for 32 years, serving as Postmaster the last 8. She grew up in a family that loved music and played the piano for the weekly Stamps-Baxter Gospel singings for many years. After she retired from the Post Office, she played the keyboard for the Martin County Senior Citizens Old Sorehead Band. (You could easily pick her out—she was the one always smiling.)Verla and her sister, \Babe\ Lindsey, also played in a family band called \The Cousins\ with their cousins Mary Ellis and Billie Miles.Verla was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna Lou Robinson, and her husband of 61 years, Richard. She is survived by her sister Juanita \Babe\ Lindsey (husband Bud) of Stanton, her daughters Doyla Haislip and Dinah Doggett, and grandson Bobby Haislip, all of Stanton, and by several special nieces and nephews.The family would like to express great love and appreciation to the wonderful Caregivers who took care of Mom the past 5 years, Teresa Booth, Annie Garanzuay, Tami Holguin, Sally Armendarez, Adela Cantu, and Juanita Avalos and to the faithful employees of Home Hospice and Home Hospice Nurse Lisa Rackard.Family and friends will gather to celebrate Verla's life Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., at the Hosanna Christian Fellowship of Stanton.
