Utah A. Campbell, 83, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, February 13, 2005, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.He was born on October 24, 1921, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and married Ola Mae McNew in 1948 in Big Spring, Texas.Mr. Campbell had lived in Big Spring since 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1940 to 1946. Utah was captured in Corrigador and held as a prisioner of war for three years. He received numerous decorations and citations including American Defense Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Defense Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge WD G#2 9Mar42 & 2 Oak Leaf Clusgters, Victory Ribbon, 1 Service Stripe, 7 Overseas Service Bars. Utah loved country music and enjoyed dancing at the Senior Citizen Center. He also enjoyed working in the yard.Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae (Sally) Campbell of Big Spring; two sons, Rusty Campbell and Sandy Campbell, both of Lubbock.
