Thomas Hill

Thomas Hill, 89, passed away September 18, 2024 in Midland, Texas.

The son of Louise (Slaughter) and Orvis L. Hill, Thomas was born May 11, 1935 in Palestine, Texas.  The Hill family lived in Dallas during the World War II years and had memories of their “Victory Garden” with Tommy pulling the plow.  He spent his early years in Tyler, Texas, graduating from Tyler High School in 1953, where he played football.

Mr. Hill obtained a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering degree in 1957 from the University of Oklahoma.  Thomas served in the United States Navy, where he sailed to various ports, including Japan and Taiwan during the Quemoy and Matsu Conflict.  After military discharge in March 1959, he continued serving with the Naval Reserve until 1977.

Thomas began his career with Mobil Oil Company in 1960, moving to Midland and working in the West Texas Districts.  It was in Midland where he married Kay Stephenson and they attended First Christian Church.  Tommy had an avid interest in the European/British theater of war, enjoying the rich history of the UK.  He and Kay honeymooned there and experienced the grandeur and history of the British Empire.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Kay Hill, who passed away August 23, 2024.

He is survived by his brother, Allan Hill and extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, September 28, 10:00 AM at the First Christian Church, Midland.  Interment with honors will be in Tyler Memorial Park, Tyler Texas.
