On Monday, December 12th, Theodore Novak, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at the age of eighty. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, December 16th, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
Ted is survived by wife Phyllis Novak, Daughters Lawana Grissam and husband Chuck of Midland, TX, Tonya McNeely and husband Kevin of McKinney, TX, and Latisha Spencer and husband Nathan of Midland, TX, 11 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. He preceded in death by his mother and father, and oldest daughter Dawna.
Ted was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 4th 1942 to Janeice Novak and Theodore Novak. Ted joined the Naval Academy and served on the nuclear submarine USS Halsey Powell. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on March 24th 1964. Ted met Phyllis Guinn “the love of his life”, they were married March 3rd 1978 in Odessa, TX.
Ted worked as a carpenter and helped construct many of the buildings in downtown Midland.
He worked for the Midland Hilton as the Chief Engineer, and finished his career at UTPB as a plant operator, overseeing the university’s HVAC systems and retired in 2016.
Ted was known for his contagious laughter and his love for food, especially ice cream and the Chinese buffet (he could eat more than anyone you knew). Ted loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be so very missed.
