Suzanna Poe

In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Suzanna Poe, beloved daughter, sister, cousin and friend. Suzanna passed away on October 30^th, 2025 in Midland, Texas at the age of 76 following a brief illness. A funeral mass is scheduled to take place at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 5^th, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stanton, Texas. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Suzanna was born to Eleanor Houston Poe and J.D. Poe on May 9^th, 1949 in Big Spring, Texas. She was a fourth-generation descendant of the pioneer Houston and Tom ranching families. Suzanna loved the ranch and cattle business all the days of her life.

Growing up in Stanton, Suzanna attended Stanton ISD grades 1-12. During those early years, she joined the band and learned how to play the flute. She entertained friends with the stories of band trips out of town and malfeasance on the band bus, sometimes eliciting a raised eyebrow or more often a roar of laughter. She graduated with SHS class of 1967. Following graduation, Suzanna completed business school in Odessa. Shortly thereafter she moved to Dallas and worked in the insurance business for a couple of years. Upon her return to West Texas, Suzanna started a career in banking and business that lasted more than fifty years, retiring from Community National Bank in 2022.

Those who knew Suzanna enjoyed her sense of humor and plain-spoken quick wit, always finding something funny regardless of the situation. She had a wonderful memory and amazed people with her ability to recall names, dates, places and events from the past.

On another note, Suzanna served on the St. Joseph Cemetery Board for many years and became one of its most faithful benefactors.

When it came to sports, she followed the Dallas Cowboys and more recently, the Kansas City Chiefs. Many fall afternoons and evenings were spent in Lubbock cheering on the Texas Tech Red Raiders!

She liked Country and Western music and live concerts in particular. She has seen many entertainers over the years – from Loretta Lynn to Lainey Wilson and George Strait to Garth Brooks (before he became famous). Even Elvis The King himself.

Suzanna was a loyal friend, generous to a fault, and the best Auntie to all her friends’ kids. And she would probably agree that she could be at times stubborn as a mule.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother David, grandparents A.R. (Toad) and Anna Mae Tom Houston, J.N. and Bettie Maude Barker Poe.

Suzanna is survived by a host of friends and several cousins.

Pallbearers will be Larry Haggard, Marty Graham, Rusty O’Donnell, Danny Lloyd, Brad Gable, Logan Dunn, Ryan O’Donnell, and Hagen O’Donnell.
