Susan Sproule Jowell died on February 5, 2022 in her home in Marana, Arizona. She was born on May 5, 1934 in San Francisco, California to Opal Martyn Cramer and F. Robert Sproule. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jack Houston Jowell.
Susan is survived by two daughters, Lisa Catherine Jowell and Allan R. Bargas of Dallas, Texas, and Laurie Diana and husband Michael S. O’Brien of Marana, Arizona. Her grandchildren include Michael A. O’Brien, Jack L. O’Brien, Caitlyn E. O’Brien, Julian L. Jowell, and Suzette M. Jowell. She is also survived by her brother, Robert G. and wife Ann Sproule, and their extended families. Susan’s life was greatly enriched by her family.
Susan grew up in San Angelo, Texas. Following two years as a student at Texas Christian University, Susan entered Sul Ross State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She taught for several years at Reagan Elementary in Odessa, Texas before retiring and marrying Jack. They married in San Angelo at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Jack’s petroleum engineering career took her to Dallas, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Edmond, Oklahoma. After years of travel, they returned to West Texas to work and retire in Midland.
Susan was always an active member of many service and social clubs including: AIMEES, Petroleum Wives Club, Midland High PTA, SCS Bridge Club, Greentree Country Club, and Museum of the Southwest. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity.
A visitation will be held on February 18th from 7-9 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will be held on February 19th at 3 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. It will be officiated by Fr. Bob Hennagin of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity.
All remembrances should be sent to a charity of your choice.
