Susan Shepard Kerr died on May 11, 2021. A graveside service will be held, Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10:30 am at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1:00 pm, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Steve Schorr officiating.
Sue was born June 4, 1936 in Richmond, Virginia. She lived in Illinois, Massachusetts, and Tennessee before settling in Birmingham, Alabama where she completed high school. She met her future husband, Theodore Morris “Ted” Kerr while she was attending Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia. They were married on March 30, 1957. In 1959 following the completion of Ted’s military service and law school they moved to Midland. She completed her education at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin receiving her BBA degree in 1981. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Deacon, sang in the choir and served the church in several other capacities.
She was a member of the Junior League of Midland and served on the boards of Presbyterian Children’s Homes of Texas and the Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale. She sang in the Chorale for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fayette Gleason Shepard and Marian Clark Shepard and by her sister, Ann Shepard Allen.
She is survived by her husband; her sons, Theodore Morris Kerr, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas and Charles Shepard Kerr of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, William Wingate Kerr, Elizabeth Kerr Schmidt, George Fletcher Kerr and Rebecca Peirce Kerr.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Choir Fund, 800 W. Texas Ave., Midland, Texas 79705; Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, P.O. Box 14088, Austin, Texas 79714-9981; or a charity of one’s choice.
