Shirley Joyce Ray, 74, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, surrounded by her family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 8, from 4:00pm -6:00pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, at 11:30am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel.
Shirley was born on February 11, 1947 to Myrna and James Hale in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Lee High School in 1965 and worked for Skelly and Getty Oil Companies before staying at home full-time with her two daughters. Shirley married Ronnie on February 14, 1970, and had as close to a fairytale marriage as is humanly possible. They raised their daughters in Midland and Casper, Wyoming, but ultimately settled back in Midland in the early 80s. In her final days, Shirley told family and friends that she had lived the best life anyone could possibly ask for.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years Ronnie Ray; daughter Christi Ray Callicoatte and husband Vince of Midland; daughter Misti Ray Rosborough and husband Tim of Midland; four grandchildren, Taylor Callicoatte, Colton Callicoatte, Ayden Tytanic and Brylee Tytanic, all of Midland; brother Mike Hale and wife Diane of Arlington; seven nieces and nephews (Gene, Anna, Eddie, Robbie, Dean, Megan and Sean), and many great nieces and nephews who she all loved dearly.
Shirley was truly the model of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is preceded in death by her father James Hale and her mother Myrna Lee Hale Oliver, an infant daughter Anna Christine, and an infant.
