Shawn Landau Cook

Shawn Landau Cook was called home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 17, 2010. He was born on March 6, 1972 in Kingman, Kansas.He attended Lee High School and later earned his GED. He enjoyed racing BMX bikes and motorcycles with his brother and father. He was employed with Cardinal Industries in Odessa when he married Lezlie Pate in October of 1991 and in February of 1992 they had a son; Justin Cook. He met Heather Tate and in March of 2001 they had a daughter; Devine Crystian Cook. They moved to Indiana where he was employed with Akins Excavating. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and never missed a game. He loved to root for Tony Stewart while watching NASCAR racing. He loved to fish and felt a sense of tranquility while around the water. He had a large circle of friends since childhood; he could never go anywhere without taking at least one friend with him no matter how far his family traveled. He spent several years away from his family and when he returned he craved home cooking and made a list for his family of all of his favorite foods. He ate so much in one weekend he made himself sick. He had a huge heart and would give you the shirt off his back and always worried about those that had less than he did. He deeply loved his children and for the first time in his life he got to spend Fathers Day 2010 with both of them together as a family. He said that he felt like he had just won the lottery that day. He often tested his parents and siblings to their limits but with a grin he could tell you a story that you knew in your heart could not possible be true and immediately you would give in to him. When he was little he was attacked by a family friend's dog but that did not keep him from having a soft spot for dogs and cats; he might not have a place to live at times but he always had a dog or cat. He lived each day to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Henry and Twilla Cook of Cheney, Kansas and grandfather; Clarence Akins of King City, Missouri and an uncle; Charles Cook of Kingman, Kansas.He is survived by his children, Justin Cook of Midland, Devine Cook of Midland, his parents; Judy Montano and Raymond and Carol Cook of Midland, sister; Dr. Kasi Howard of Lubbock, Shenee' Clary and husband Jim of Midland, brothers; Shannon Cook and Ryan Howard of Midland, nephews; Patrick Kingery and Casyn Dean of Midland and grandmother; Carmelita Akins of King City, Missouri and two stepbrothers; Buddy Fazzio of Midland and Rick Fazzio of Florida; several Aunts, Uncles and cousins and numerous friends.There will be a memorial service officiated by Skip Hedgepeth on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
