Sandy Betus, 78, of Big Spring, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 4, 2014 in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. He was born February 10, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and married Beth Burcham July 10, 1999 in Sand Springs, Texas. Sandy joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He then joined the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam and Korea as well as other locations around the world before retiring in November 1974. He was a structural engineer and owned his own business for a number of years. In 2010, Sandy started volunteering at the Big Spring VAMC in the veterans healing center as a PTSD facilitator as well as serving on numerous boards. He is survived by his wife, Beth Betus of Big Spring; one son, James Betus and wife, Lori of Von Ormy, Texas; one step-daughter, Lora Holley and husband, David of Mustang, Oklahoma; two step-sons, Jimmy Conner and wife, Christy of Midland and Joe Conner and wife, Ashley of Weatherford; 13 grandchildren, Kari Lord, Tye Holley, Kaylee Lord, Haylie Conner, Kelsey Betus, Tana Holley, Katelyn Lord, Hayden Conner, Karsyn Bateman, Hadley Conner, Doss Conner, Delaney Betus and Dylan Betus; numerous nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Jewel Burcham, whom he loved as his own. He was preceded in death by parents, Alexandre C. Betus and Ruth Smith Betus; and one son, John Betus.
