Sadie Tillman HudsonSadie Tillman Hudson died on September 1, 2011 at her home in Midland, Texas, a few days from her 63rd anniversary and less than a month from her 84th birthday.Sadie, born Sarah Bagby Tillman, on September 24, 1927 in Ozona, Texas, was the third child of Margaret Clark and Alvin Young Tillman. Theirs was a ranching family that had a great love of the land. Her family lived on a ranch near Fort Stockton and in Menard. She graduated from Menard High School and earned her Associate of Arts degree at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she met her husband, Robert Kellogg Hudson. They were married on September 4, 1948.Sadie and Bob lived in Chicago, where their first two children, Helen Carol and Robert Scott, were born. The family moved to Midland, Texas in 1958, where Bob began work with the Stubbeman, McCrae, Sealy and Laughlin law firm; later joining Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe and Dawson. Their third child, Nancy Clark, was born in Midland.Quietly spiritual, her personal faith in God was the cornerstone of her being. Sadie showed her compassion through many roles as a community volunteer. Through the Children's Service League, she developed a devotion to the children at the Midland Cerebral Palsy Center. A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, she served in the In Touch Ministry and as a Stephen Minister.A strong believer in the purpose of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sadie was active in the Colonel Theunis Dey Chapter. Serving twice as Regent, she represented the chapter at the Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. An arts enthusiast, she supported the Midland Arts Council and especially enjoyed the Midland Community Theatre. She was committed to the Midland Symphony Guild and took her turn serving as president. Sadie loved the visual arts and was a life-long student of drawing and painting.She permanently and incurably loved learning and would tell you that the secret to having an interesting life is to be interested. In her early Midland days, Sadie enjoyed the Heritage Study Club. She developed financial savvy through participation in the MRS (Mink 'r Sink) Investment Club. In later years, the Junior Women's Wednesday Club was a source of great pleasure.Sadie was a passionate bridge player and especially enjoyed partnership with her niece, Sadie Tillman Davidson. The Sadies were a formidable team and she ended her bridge career just a few points short of becoming a Life Master.Sadie was predeceased by her brother, A.Y., her parents and, just this year, her brother, Frank. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bob, her children and their spouses, Helen and Don Pierson, Jimmie and Scott Hudson and Nancy and Steve Wilson, two grandchildren, Sarah Clark Pierson and Robert Woodrow Hudson, her sister, Margaret Tillman Willis (Bitsy), and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Her memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.Memorial gifts may be made to the Midland Children's Rehabilitation Center or Rays of Hope Children's Grief Centre at Hospice of Midland.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
