Ruth Young

Ruth Young, 89, of Midland, passed away on April 26, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Faudree Chapel in Manor Park.

Ruth was born on October 4, 1935 in Crossroads, New Mexico to Gaston and Violette Bonds. She and her sister Lanelle were later raised by their stepdad, Lloyd Newgen, when their mother remarried. She graduated from Tatum High School in December 1953, and was married to B.L. Young that same month. Their marriage lasted for 68 years, until his death.

They raised two children—a daughter, Linda, and a son, Kelly—in Midland, TX. Ruth was active in PTA, band boosters, and anything her children were involved in. A woman of many talents, she designed and sewed many of her family’s clothes. She became a licensed hairdresser and owned her own shop. She did this for a number of years before moving to Plano, where she started her real estate career in 1978. When B.L.’s work brought them back to Midland, she obtained many real estate accomplishments: the top associate for listings and sales, voted best realtor in Midland for many years, and the National Million Dollar Club for eight years. She was an active member of the National Association of Realtors, the Texas Association of Realtors, and The Permian Basin Association of Realtors, where she served on various committees for professional standards. She pursued continuing education in order to serve her clients better. Her service extended to the community, as she spoke at career days at Midland Public Schools to promote the real estate profession. Ruth also served on the board of Good Samaritan’s Nursing Home, and the advisory board of Midland College.

She was known for her dedication, commitment, energy, hardworking attitude, and giving heart, especially when it came to her family.

Ruth is survived by daughter Linda McLaughlin and husband Steve of Midland, son Kelly Young and wife Joella of Bulverde, TX. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Emily Young, Daniel McLaughlin, his wife Claire, Cutty Young, Stephanie (McLaughlin) Olsen, her husband Ryan, Rachel (McLaughlin) Stitzel and her husband Jed, Margaret (Young) Rhoden, her husband Nathan, Tess (Young) Overholt, her husband Cullen, Ashley Woolsey, her husband Leon, and Marilyn Vogelsang and her husband James. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Samantha, Penelope, Sawyer, Julia, Cassandra, Olivia, Camila, Riggs, and Neil.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband B.L. Young; parents, Gaston Bonds, and Lloyd and Violette Newgen; and her sister and brother-in-law Lanelle and John Adams.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staff at Manor Park, particularly Vogel and Cowden Cottage, for their great and tender care, as well as Hospice of Midland.

The family will host a private celebration of life at a later date, in order to include all grandchildren.
