Jo was born on August 3, 1921 in Mineola, TX to William and Katie Shirey. Jo married CM Edwards and he preceded her in death in 1999. Together, Jo and CM raised 3 children. She was a strong independent woman living in her own home until the age of 100 and driving independently until the age of 97. Jo was a very devout Southern Baptist and never missed a church service even if she had to watch it on TV. Being a mother and grandmother was something Jo did very well. She loved animals, especially her backyard turtles, but cooking was one of her many talents, and the entire family has fond memories of the family dinners she prepared. She loved to read, especially her bible, and she taught her son Jim to read when he was quite young. Jo enjoyed nature, especially her yard in the spring when the purple iris bloomed. She had a delightful sense of humor and was always smiling, even until the end of her life.
Survivors include, her son, James “Jim” Edwards and wife, Carmen of Midland. She was Mamaw to five grandchildren, James Edwards, Jr., and partner Rebecca Lowe, Jason Gray, Amy Gray and her partner Terry Tucker, Jr., Amanda Quest and spouse Brian Rubin, Katie Grissam and husband Josh; six great grandchildren, Megan Quest, Jared Ruiz, Zach Quest, Ashley Ruiz, Oliver Weldon, and Emma Quest; and three step-great grandchildren, Tate Grissam, Chloe Grissam, and Lucy Grissam. To honor her memory are a nephew, Harold Hicks and his wife Joyce of San Angelo, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews on the Edwards side of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, CM Edwards, a son Larry Bruce Edwards, a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Edwards; a grandson, Patrick Quest, and her three sisters whom she dearly loved.
