Ruth EdmonsonA love of reading enabled Ruth Edmonson, who died March 31, 2001, at the age of 85, to overcome, endure, and enjoy many phases of her life. As a child, reading sustained her while recovering from tuberculosis; she went on to graduate as valedictorian of her high school class. During World War II, the demanding work of a defense plant used her reading skills to certify and clear all planes leaving for the war effort. Afterwards, Ruth Edmonson had a work history in insurance, banking, medicine, and law. Later in life, and still an avid reader, she discovered the joy of encouraging children to read by being a volunteer librarian for fifteen years. In her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Bebe and Ardis McCasland, Suggest memorials be given to either the Learn To Read program or the children's section of the Howard County Library. A private service for Mrs. Edmonson will be held at a later date.,
