With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ruby Lee Lucas, beloved mothers, grandmothers, and friend to all the lives she touched, Tuesday, May 17, 2022. She left us peacefully with the love of her life and their three children by her side. She was 87 years of age, born in Runnels County on February 25, 1935. She graduated from Winters High School and married J.T. Lucas, on June 6, 1953.
She lived a full life as a loving mother, grandmother and dedicated employee. She began her career as a farmer’s wife and eventually began to work outside of the home. In all her various experiences, from seamstress at a children’s home to working at an oil and gas company, she brought joy and laughter to all those who came in contact with her. Additionally, she shared her talents by volunteering at the Stanton Auxiliary Thrift Store, often brining home more treasures than she sold. And that’s a fact!
Her most valuable contribution was instilling Christian values in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that has served them well. Service, kindness, sharing the heart of Jesus, and loving her family were the pillars that defined her life. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dick and Lena Kruse, brother, Richard Kruse, sister, Virgie Cromer, and her daughter, Cindy Lucas Johnston.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, J.T. Lucas, her three children and their spouses, Allen and Kay Lynne Lucas, Linda and Johnny Gonzales, and Audrey and Joe Hollingsworth. She has two surviving sisters, Dorothy Splawn and Florence Secrest, and one brother, Delbert Kruse. She was also proud of their twelve grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 5pm until 8pm, at Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Stanton on Saturday, May 21, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
