Ross Dean Roberts took his last breath on earth and his first in heaven on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. His family will celebrate his life at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Andrews Cemetery.
Born on October 10, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, Ross was the beloved son of Bertha Mae and Benjamin Fredrick Roberts. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, embarking on a lifelong career in oil and gas. He found great joy in the thrill of discovery, always eager to uncover new reserves. Ross was also a true patriot, serving his country in United States Army Reserves.
Ross was blessed to share his life with his wife, Sue Waggoner Roberts. Married for 58 years, they built a life filled with love and adventure, enjoying square dancing, snow skiing, and cherished moments together. A devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Midland, Ross faithfully attended the Partners Sunday School class for 49 years. His passion for music, poetry, and reading was undeniable—there is no doubt that he entered heaven singing Holy, Holy, Holy!
Throughout his career, Ross formed several successful partnerships, including Roberts, Koch & Cartwright and RDR Energy, continuing his pursuit of West Texas wildcatting with enthusiasm and dedication.
Ross is survived by his loving children: Teresa Newman and her husband Mike, Sherry Mahaffey, Ross Roberts Jr. and wife Susie. He is also survived by his sister Linda Simpson, his brother Kent Roberts, and his treasured legacy—seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Eloise Roberts, and brothers Benjamin Fredrick Roberts Jr., Billy Gray Roberts, Charles Edward Roberts, and Clay Dennis Roberts.
The family is profoundly grateful to his longtime caregiver, Irene Reyes, for her kindness and unwavering support through Ross’s battle with Parkinson’s. Special thanks are also extended to the staff at The Baptist Retirement Community of San Angelo for their compassionate care.
