Ron Douglas Hardaway

Ron Douglas Hardaway of Midland, Texas passed away on July 26, 2025 due to complication related to cancer in Kerrville, Texas.  He was born in Waco, Texas on August 19, 1936.

Since the age of 14, he has worked in the optical business in Midland.  After high school he enlisted in the Navy and after his service returned to Midland in order to continue his work.  He eventually bought into the business and owned his own stores, Hardaway Optical, for over 60 years. For many years he served with Dr. Meckley, his friend who was the ophthalmologist who officed next door.

He served in many optical organizations in the state of Texas and was the self-proclaimed President of the Positivity Society.  He had the honor of serving thousands of people in his community and several famous people along the way including Redd Foxx, for whom he made glasses on several occasions.

He was preceded in death by his second son, Jon William Hardaway on August 6, 2019.

He is survived by his son Ronald Hardaway Jr., wife Barbara, Ripp Hardaway, wife Sue, and Gray Hardaway, wife Jamie.  His grandchildren include Kayla, Aaron, wife Shelby, Mekenzie, Hayden, Hallie and Kate.  His great grandchildren include Stormi, Bodhi, Luke and Charlie.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral home at 3800 N. Big Spring Street in Midland on August 29^th at 2:00 pm.
