Roe Berta Lambert Davis was born on July 28, 1921 in Spur, Texas to Joe Lomax Lambert and Florence Dell Starett Lambert. She passed on December 18, 2013 at her home in Midland, Texas. Roe Berta graduated from Monahans High School in 1938. Then, she attended Howard Payne College. Roe Berta married RH Lee Davis on May 17, 1942 in Monahans, Texas. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary with family and friends. RH and Roe Berta moved many times during the early years of their marriage. They had two children born during WWII while RH served in the Army Air Force. After the war, they settled in West Texas and RH was employed by Stanolind Oil and Gas. This meant many moves in oilfield camp housing. Roe Berta always made sure the family found a church, home, and made many life-long friends during this time. RH and Roe Berta lived in Lubbock from 1935 – 1966 when RH was transferred to Midland.Roe Berta has been lovingly described as “a force of nature”. She loved the role of wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She always had a special surprise for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came to visit. Roe Berta made sure that she was in attendance of all of the major events of the family. She spent all year planning special gifts for the three grandsons and their families. Roe Berta loved to volunteer. She was a Scout leader, member of Republican Women, League of Women Voters, Pink Lady at the hospital, and a docent at the Petroleum Museum of Midland. Her lifetime commitment was to her Presbyterian church community. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Midland. She was Sunday School Superintendent, active in Presbytery Women, and Christian Education.When RH was approaching retirement from the oil company they opened Davis Garden Center in Midland from 1971 – 1992. Roe Berta was very much involved in the day to day operation of the Garden Center.Roe Berta was an avid reader and was a long-time member of the EN AMIE Book Club. She could discuss any topic from great-grandchildren to current events. She loved to decorate for special occasions. Her favorite time of year was Advent. She had a large collection of dolls from all over the world. She loved to travel with RH, her friends, and family. She loved her friends and shared in their joys and sorrow. Roe Berta was an expert seamstress and knitted beautiful sweaters until the last few years of her life. She is predeceased by her parents, Joe L. and Florence Lambert, brother Billy Joe Lambert, and son Roy Joe Davis. She is survived by her husband, RH Davis of Midland; daughter, Frances Carlton and her husband, Donald of Midland; grandsons Derek Davis and his wife Leigh of Denver, Colorado; Jeffrey Carlton and his wife, Jennifer of Fort Worth; Todd Carlton and his wife, Elizabeth of Southlake, Texas. Great- grandchildren Hadley Carlton, Andrew Carlton, Reese Carlton, Alexander Carlton, Jack Carlton, and Miller Davis. Special thanks to loving caregiver – Karen Riley. The entire family appreciates the family and friends who have been supportive with love and prayer during the past year.
