Rodney was born on September 1, 1937 in Drayton, North Dakota to Sara and William Keena. He attended Hamilton School and graduated in 1955. He served in the United States Navy for four years. He married Shirley Ann O’Hara September 2nd, 1962 in Hamilton, North Dakota. He also attended North Dakota School of Science at Wahpeton for two years, majoring in Electronic Technology. Their first child, Debbie was born in Moab, Utah. Their second child, Rick, was born in Gillette, Wyoming. They lived in eight states and 23 cities before settling in Midland, TX in 1978. Rodney worked in the oilfield and eventually was one of the original owners of Electric Submersible Pumps, Inc. He retired in 1993 at the age of 56. He enjoyed golfing, motorcycling and riding his bicycle (obsessively – having put more miles on his bicycles than his vehicles). For 20 years they enjoyed splitting their time between North Dakota and Midland. He also enjoyed watching sports and placing dollar bets with Ray Johnson. He is survived by their daughter, Debbie Wilkerson and husband Doug; son Rick Keena and wife Susie; grandkids: Josh Wilkerson, Brittaney Edwards and husband Matt; Keaton Vines and Kaylee Keena; great-grandchildren Haigen Salazar, Cooper and Blakely Edwards, two sisters Maxine McIntyre (Marvin), Sharon O’Hara (Dale); sister-in-law’s Mary Jane Johnson (Don), Judy McDonald, Joyce Johnston and many nieces and nephews. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents William and Sara Keena, in-laws Clinton and Hulda O’Hara; sister Audrey Rowe, and brothers Ray and Bill Keena.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Ashton Medical, Manor Park, Hospice of Midland, and Midland Memorial Hospital.
