Robert William Helm, 85, of Midland passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 in Midland. A visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 12:00pm Friday, April 7, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rusty Baker, Allen Baker, Troy Baker, McKenzie Carmen, Tanner Carmen and Tatum Luxton.Robert was born October 16, 1931 in Tynan, Texas, on his grandparent’s farm, to William Carl Helm and Josephine Ida Kercher Helm. He grew up in South Texas and after graduating high school he joined the U.S. Navy at 18 years old and served for four years. Robert married Angelina Irene Massey June 4, 1951 and had two children Randolph William and Kathleen Leatrice. He worked at the Rexene Petrochemical Plant in Odessa for 35 years and finally retiring in Midland County.Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years Irene Helm of Midland; daughter Kathleen Baker and husband John of Midland; grandchildren April Carmen and husband Brent, Angela Hennessey, Rusty Baker, Troy Baker, and Allen Baker; great grandchildren McKinzie Carmen, Tanner Carmen, Tatum Luxton, Kaylin Hennessey, Jolee Baker, and Macee Baker; sisters Elizabeth Rogers of San Antonio, and Virginia hales of Three Rivers; numerous nieces and nephews.Robert was preceded in death by his parents; son Randolph (Randy) Helm; brothers Fredrick William Helm and Julis Robert Helm.The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
