Robert Lee Howland, 93, of Big Spring, TX, died Monday March 6, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 10, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Robert was born January 27, 1930 in Red River County, TX to the late Roy J. and Zelma Mae (Tucker) Howland. He married Joy (McNew) Howland on December 17, 1949. They have been married for nearly 74 years.
Robert possessed a deep rooted work ethic and was known to be an especially hard worker. In his youth he worked at Hobbs Lumber & Supply in Hobbs, New Mexico where he became the yard foreman. He also worked as a ranch hand and ranch foreman prior to starting his welding business. He worked for many years in the welding field working for farms and in the oil field. He was particularly skilled at welding farm equipment. A true cowboy he enjoyed rodeos, old westerns on TV and his horses. He especially loved the dogs that were his companion over the years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Big Spring. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved the time spent with family.
Robert is survived by his wife, Joy; his son, Robert D. “Skip” Howland and his wife Kay; his grandson, Robert D. “Bo” Howland Jr. and his wife Kerri; his granddaughter, Michelle Lee Crenshaw and her husband Shannon; his great-grandchildren, Cody, Shawna, Oden, Skipper, and Xander; his great-great-granddaughter, Aubrey; his brother, Jerry Howland; his sister, Maggie Mikus; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, James, and Wayne; and his sisters, Lucy, and Mattie.
