Robert Emmett Beall, born July 31, 1931 in Big Spring, passed away the morning of July 4, 2021 in his personal residence per his request. He was 89 years, 338 days and just 27 days shy of celebrating his 90th birthday. He will lie in state from 8:30 AM until 9:00 PM Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
He was a long-term resident of Howard County and graduated from Knott High School in 1950. Throughout his youth his love of baseball began, after graduation he signed a contract with a Minor League baseball team as a pitcher that sent him to Florida. He was honored to play ball for two years before realizing there was no stability and decided to come back to Knott. Upon returning, he married Ida Lou Fryar on July 3, 1953. Shortly after, he joined the US Army and they were sent to Ft Leonard Wood, Kentucky. Robert served a short term being medically discharged in 1954.
They returned to Howard County and began cotton farming which eventually replaced his love for baseball. For the next 68 years, Robert farmed and grew his small beginnings into a successful family-owned business; which has since expanded for three generations. During this time, Robert also worked himself into management with Planters Gin for 29 years. He then managed the Brown Gin (Archer Daniel Midland Company) several years, retiring in 1998. Robert was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring, Texas.
Survivors include: his wife Bobbie Sue Beall whom he married in January 1999 of Big Spring; one son, Joe Paul Beall and wife Rene’ of Big Spring; one daughter, Jill Clements and husband Darin of Midland; one daughter-in-law Shari Beall of Big Spring and two step children; David Shockley of Abilene and Arron Shockley of Big Spring. Robert had 5 grandchildren; Jerrod Beall and wife Stacy, Stuart Beall and wife Sydney, Allison Clements-Traylor, Garrett Clements, and Preston Clements, and 4 step grandchildren; Steven Croft and wife Keele, Lacy and husband Cody Brown, Jerika and husband David Jones, Brayden and wife Cassie Schockley and 10 great grandchildren Hailey, Addie, Oakley, Paige, Carter, and Cameron Beall; Lorali’, Slayden, Holden, and Lainey Traylor; 8 step great grandchildren Kelby and Kyryn Croft, Madilyn Brown, Evrett, Victory, and Lincoln Jones, Grayson and Sadie Shockley. One sister-in-law Lois Rae Beall of Lakeway, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was proceeded in death by his parents Orpha Wade Little and Emmett Beall; step dad Pendry Little, former wife, Ida Lou Beall, a son Bobby Beall, his brother Joseph Edward Beall; two step-sisters Elaine Potter and Senie Coldiron.
