Robert “Bobby” Calvin Turner

Robert Calvin Turner, Bobby to his friends and family, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 12, 2020. He was the backbone of our family and will be greatly missed. Bobby was born November 12, 1958, in Odessa, Texas, to Marvin and Linda Turner. Growing up he spent summers with his grandparents Vivian and Landreth Holland Turner, learning a love for the land and horses that would remain with him throughout his life, and be handed on to his children and grandchildren. Bobby graduated from Odessa High School in 1977, and attended Tarleton State University for two years. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Askins, on August 18, 1979, and they moved to Colorado, where Bobby worked on a ranch. They returned to Odessa to put down roots, and God blessed them with three children: Sam, Emily, and Thomas. He began working for his father at Diamond Tank Rental in Odessa, later co-owning DTR with his brother Roger Turner and partnering with Roger and Tommy Salmon Jr. in Diamond Pump and Transport.

Later on Bobby and Sue moved to Greenwood, where they raised their family and built their retirement home. When the grandchildren began arriving, their Poppy had each of them on the back of a horse at an early age. He was teaching them a love for horses just as his grandfather had taught him. Bobby especially loved riding and training cutting horses. Whether working cattle all day, or training a cutting horse, horseback was one of his favorite places to be. He loved his family dearly, and loved riding motorcycles with his sons. He had a deep respect for the rich heritage of his family line, and charmed the extended family members each year at their reunion, playing the role of auctioneer with finesse and humor, inducing great laughter and fun. Bobby and his family had a family tradition to go camping in Colorado every summer that he truly cherished. He adored fishing with his grandkids. Bobby loved to hunt with friends, and one of those highlights included a safari hunt in Africa. He enjoyed a good laugh, and was known to play practical jokes when he got the chance. He was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, and Bob’s faith ran deep. He was so humble, kind, hardworking, generous and tougher than tough; to know Bobby, was to love him. Preceded in death by his father, Robert Marvin Turner, Bobby is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Sue Turner; his children: Sam Turner, Thomas Turner, Emily & Shamar Freeman and his grandchildren Jaxson and Jillian Freeman, Wyatt and Henley Turner, and another grandson on the way; his mother, Linda Turner, brother, Roger Turner (wife Lisa); and sister, Rebecca Thomas (husband Billy); along with several loving nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the management of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland, TX where visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 18^th, 5:00-7:00pm at the Branch @npw, 3800 N. Big Spring Street, Midland.  Funeral services will be at Greenwood Baptist Church on Saturday, December 19^th, 11:00am; graveside service to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
