My best friend and mother to our children, Renee Barraza, was called home by her Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2022, fulfilling her purpose of 63 years, 5 months and 23 days. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Renee was born on January 26, 1959, to Virgil Paul and Thelma Maxine Holden in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She lived in Howard County most of her life, graduating from Big Spring High School in 1977. She began her career working as a secretary for Caldwell Electric. She learned American Sign Language and became an interpreter, working for LSU School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Renee found her way back to Howard County, where she worked for Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf, MHMR, and the Division of Rehabilitation Services, retiring in 2018.
Renee married Richard Barraza and became a mother to son, Codee Richard, and daughter Carlee Ryan. She was active in her children’s lives, taking on the roles of Den Mother, Brownie Troop leader, and an avid supporter of their interests in sports and band.
Renee loved traveling to explore the United States. She loved camping and vacationing with her kids. Renee liked flower gardens and lush, green lawns, but her favorite delight was her children’s smiles and the sound of their laughter.
Renee could light up any room with her quick wit, contagious laughter, and her bright blue eyes. She brought such joy and happiness to everyone around her, especially her family.
I miss my best friend…until we meet again.
We love you, Momma.
