Rebecca Lee Swafford (Becky) of Midland passed away on October 5, 2017 in Midland after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.There will be a visitation at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Sunday October 8, 2017 from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Baptist Church with Zack Crook officiating.Becky was born in Dallas, Texas on May 24, 1940 to Jim and Eva Lee Bruton. She had one older sister, Barbara Bruton. Becky was raised in Plano and graduated from Plano High School in 1958. She then attended Draughn’s Business School. Becky and a friend moved to Dallas, where Becky began a career as a bookkeeper. This is where she met Donal L. Swafford, the love of her life, they were married September 4, 1959. While living in Dallas, Becky worked for the Red Cross which was a job she loved. Donal worked for Texaco and they eventually were moved from Dallas to Wichita Falls and finally to Midland in 1975. Becky continued to work as a Bookkeeper and in 1982 started her own commercial janitorial business. Don retired from Texaco and Becky sold her business in 1989 and they moved to Duncan, Oklahoma and began raising miniature horses. Becky loved all animals and the horses were a special treat. Don and Becky travelled all over Texas and Oklahoma to horse shows and had one horse that became a National Grand Champion. In 1993 they returned to Midland to be near family and friends. Becky volunteered at Meals on Wheels, made many trips to Ruidoso and also lots of girl’s trips to Las Vegas with special friends Carolyn and Verna. Becky had a zest for life that was contagious to everyone around her.Becky was preceded in death by her parents, sister and daughter (Kim Ann Swafford). She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donal Swafford; one son, Mark Swafford and wife Janna of Midland; one grandson, Jerod Swafford and wife Brandy of Midland; one step-daughter, Cathy McMullen and family, of Hallsville, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Layla Swafford.The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all the staff at Legacy Ranch Alzheimer’s Care Facility and also the staff at Compass Hospice.In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to a charity of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
