Raymond Eugene McDonald of Midland, formerly of Greenville, Texas died Tuesday, December 9, 2008.He was born July 14, 1923 in Maud, Texas to James A. McDonald and Ella Davis McDonald. He was preceded in death by his parents and three older brothers, James, T.F. and Marvin.In 1942, he attended Rice University on a basketball scholarship.In July 1943, Mr. McDonald married Jeanette Jackson in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. He served in the US Army 1944 1946 in the Pacific Theatre, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.Mr. and Mrs. McDonald moved to West Texas where Mr. McDonald worked as a driller in the oil fields. He was a co-founder in Walker-McDonald Bit Co., which later became Walker-McDonald Manufacturing Co. in Greenville, Texas. After the sale of Walker-McDonald in 1977, Mr. McDonald bought the controlling interest in Colonial Bank of Greenville. He sold his banking interests and retired in the mid 1980s. In 2001, Mr. and Mrs. McDonald moved to Midland to be near their children.Mr. McDonald was an avid golfer and lifelong Baptist. He was a fierce Dallas Cowboy fan.He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; daughter, Harriett McDonald and husband, Dan Walraven; son, Darrell McDonald and wife, Kay; three grandsons, Chad Arnold and wife, Jennifer of Greenville, Justin McDonald and wife, Sharmila of Dallas and Shelton McDonald of Houston; Allison Osborn of Stamford, Connecticut, Gwen Walraven of Dallas, Erin Barnes and husband, Jeremiah of Livingston and Marine Aviator Lt. Eric Walraven of Three Rivers, North Carolina; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
