Randy Thomas, 56, of Big Spring, died on Friday, October 31, 2008, in a Midland hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 3, 2008 at the First Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Byron Brown, pastor, officiating, and Rev. Dewayne Wheat, pastor of Berea Baptist Church and Rev. Lynn Robertson, Chaplain of Compass Hospice, assisting. Interment will follow at Trinty Memorial Park in Big Spring. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born on July 8, 1952, in Big Spring and was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1971 and attended Howard College. Randy married Teresa Spears on September 12, 1975 in Big Spring.He started to work with Pioneer Natural Gas Company and then went to work for Atlantic Richfield Company working for them for 16 years. He then worked for the Big Spring Independent School District for about one year until returning to the oilfield around 2000. At the time of his death he was a lease operator for Merit Energy and had also owned and operated rental properties.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He loved to play softball and played for many years and was an avid hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Thomas and their son, Trent Thomas; his parents, Alva L. & Lois Thomas; and his mother-in-law, Gerry Spears all of Big Spring; two sister-in-laws, Tammye Chaney & her husband, Joe of Big Spring and Karen Fulton of Stanton; a uncle and aunt, Pete & Pat White of Malta, Idaho; a aunt, Wyona Searl of Bedford, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1400 Lancaster St., Big Spring, Texas, 79720
