Preston “Babe” Myrick, 80, arrived in Heaven with his dancing shoes in hand on the morning of December 21, 2022. Visitation will be held Tuesday 27, 2022 between 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home located 906 S. Gregg St, Big Spring, Texas 79720. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 28th, 2022 at 2:00 PM located in the little white chapel at Trinity Memorial Park 6900 US-87, Big Spring, TX 79720.
He was born to RL and Irene Myrick on August 7th, 1942 in Big Spring Texas, where he spent most of his life. Oh! The stories of his childhood he would tell, but we could never repeat some, kept everyone astonished and amused.
Growing up he had many oddball jobs then worked at Cosden Refinery for over 10 years. He was such a handyman he became self-employed with his own businesses from Home Appliance Repair, Heating and AC, even a little convenience grocery on 3rd street to an RV Park in Sand Springs off of I-20.
When he was a kid he had the love of baseball, as a young adult he bowled on Leagues with family and friends. His favorite pastime was dancing. He would go dancing every chance he had somewhere. His daughter’s fondest memories were dancing around like little girls do on daddy’s feet. As he grew older in the final years the simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to dad, except Dominoes, Cards, Board games and Bingo he said they were for old people.
He married his first love when he was 19 and they had two daughters which he loved and cherished. Malynda Nowell (Anthony) of Midland TX with 4 children (Curtis, Rachel, Taylor and Dylan) and 4 grandchildren (Conor, James, Emma and Everett). Carrie Libby (Paul) of Bartlesville OK with 4 children (John, Luke, Adam, Jacob), no grandchildren as of yet.
He grew up with 3 siblings Dywanna Robertson (Ducky) of Fort Worth TX, Kenneth Myrick (Fran) of Seguin TX, Jerry Myrick of Big Spring TX. He cherished and loved his sister and brothers like there was no tomorrow, they were all best friends. There was not a day that went by that they did not speak to one another.
He had many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins that hung the moon in his eyes.
He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2009 that spread to his brain in 2010. He had so much determination and courage to get through the grueling treatment that MD Anderson put forward. We were blessed to have him much longer than the Dr’s predicted. Over many years the side effects of Chemo and Radiation eventually took its tole that weakened his body, but not without a fight.
But God said it is time for you to DANCE again!
