Peter Newell BowenPeter Newell Bowen, 73, of Midland passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Newell Bowen was born on November 16, 1938 in New York City. He was adopted by Barbara and Gordon Bowen in 1940 and was brought up in New Jersey and Connecticut. He graduated from The Darrow School in 1957 and then entered the US Army where he served six years. While in the service he attended both American and George Washington Universities in Washington, DC.Upon leaving the service and finishing college he embarked on business career that encompassed 40 plus years including 10 years as a Director of HR (both nationally & VP & COO) of a motion picture production company. Over the course of his career, Mr. Bowen founded or co-founded 5 companies. In his later years he also served as an expert witness in legal cases involving Executive Search and wrote and published numerous articles on the ethics required of that profession.Throughout his life Mr. Bowen was active in his community, state and national volunteer activities some of which included the Republican Party (VT), The American Heart Association, York County (PA) Special Olympics, the ACHE, The Association of Executive Search Consultants and a life member (past Officer) of The York County (PA) Amateur Golf Association. He was a Blue & Gold Officer (USNAIO) for the U.S Naval Academy, where he was also a life member of the USNA Alumni Association and USNA Blue & Golf Athletic Association. Mr. Bowen was extensively involved in his church (Christ Church Midland) where he served in numerous capacities over the years. Mr. Bowen was also a founding member of the Basin Film Society and one of the original organizers of the Desert Reel Film Festival held annually in the Midland/Odessa area.Married to Anne Shaffer Bowen, he leaves a wife, three sons (Christopher Braga, Geoffrey Bowen and Andrew Bowen), three daughter-in-laws (Janet Braga, and Renee and Karrie Bowen) and seven grandchildren (Rowan and Kayla Braga and Reece, Avery, Seth, Griffyn, and Bishop Bowen), and numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed music, loved golf and was an avid New England Patriots fan.Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:00AM at Christ Church Midland.
