Penny Wilkins Hudgeons was born in Tulia, Texas on March 22, 1946. She died on September 5, 2020 in Midland, Texas. She was 74 years old. She was the child of Ruth and Clyde Wilkins.Penny grew up in Tulia, Texas. Her parents farmed and ranched in Swisher County. The family was very active in the Tulia community. Penny often spoke fondly of growing up in a small town and how she enjoyed those years. Penny graduated from Tulia High School in 1964.Immediately after high school, Penny enrolled at Texas Tech University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1968. She made life-long friends while in college and enjoyed everything about Texas Tech, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and several other organizations. She met her future husband, Jerry Lynn Hudgeons in accounting class and also through mutual friends. They were married in First Methodist Church in Tulia, Texas in 1968. They had 52 wonderful years together.Penny taught second grade in the Lubbock area. After her husband’s graduation from Texas Tech, they moved to Midland where she taught at Trinity School for 3 years. She retired from teaching when her first child was born in l972. She was active in many community clubs and groups and enjoyed being part of the Midland community. She was always quick to say, “Midland has wonderful people and has been very good to Jerry and me.”Penny and Jerry had two children, Brandon Lee Hudgeons and Gavin Lee Hudgeons, both of Austin, Texas. These children and her grandchildren, Sawyer Hudgeons, Ford Hudgeons, Shale Hudgeons and Kalon Hudgeons were the joys of her life. She loved them dearly. She also loved her daughters-in-law, Megan Hudgeons and Natalie Hudgeons, and the fun times and trips they took together. Penny was definitely “all about family,” and that is what she enjoyed the most.Penny is survived by her one sister, Donna Moss, her husband Eddie Moss, and by Lynn Hudgeons, Fred and Bonnie Hudgeons, Dr. Mark and Wendy Moss, Dr. George and Tara Nawar, and many nieces and nephews.Due to the pandemic, a private family memorial will be held at First United Methodist Church in Midland.
