Peggy Ann Williams

On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, in Midland, Texas, Peggy Ann Williams went to be with her Lord and Savior. On September 3, 1934, she was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Vernon and Annie Lamb. Peggy lived an adventurous life in Wichita Falls and graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1952. Peggy met the love of her life, Bill Williams, in her hometown while working together at S&H Kress. On May 21, 1954, they were joyfully married at her family’s church, the Friberg-Cooper Methodist Church. Peggy’s great-grandparents founded the church in 1902. Bill and Peggy were married 58 years. The newlyweds moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1961 and then to Midland, Texas, in 1963. They became co-owners of Goodrich Service Center in 1969, then changed the name to Bill Williams Tire Center, still in business today.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Williams, and son-in-law Vicente Villarreal, Jr.; her parents, Vernon and Annie Lamb; her brother Jerry Lamb, sister Frances Huggins and husband, Ralph. Peggy is survived by two children, Billy, wife Kelly, and daughter Julie. Peggy adored her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Chad Villarreal, wife Julie, Brandon Williams, wife Stephanie, Kyle Williams, wife Kelsey, and Greg Williams. Her great-grandchildren, Cole Villarreal, Claire Villarreal, and Kinley Williams.

Family, friends, and community were central to Bill and Peggy’s life. Although Midlanders may know them because of the tire business, most know of the couple because of their love and passion for sports. The two spent many years sitting in the crowd sipping on a coke and sharing popcorn while cheering on the Rockhounds, Midland College Chaps, or any of their grandsons’ teams to victory. You wouldn’t miss Granny Peggy Williams standing and singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch. More remarkable than their love for baseball was their endless generosity poured into the Midland community. Bill and Peggy were involved with and supported the Midland Rockhounds, Midland College Athletics, Midland Softball Association, and Midland Junior Baseball Association.

The Williams and Villarreal families would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Home Hospice Midland, specifically Amanda and Melanie. Donations may be made in Peggy’s honor to Midland College Chaparral Athletic Club or Midland Junior Baseball Association.

The celebration for Peggy’s life will be at The Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland (NPW) at 10 AM on Monday, February 7. A viewing will be held Sunday, February 6, between 5-7 PM at The Branch at NPW. NPW is located at 3800 N Big Spring Ave, Midland, Texas 79705. The Pallbearers are Chad Villarreal, Brandon Williams, Kyle Williams, Greg Williams, Shawn Giacobbe, and Jacob Strawn.
