Paul Richard Summersgill was 92 years old, born June 12, 1931 to Fearn E. McGranahan and John Summersgill in Roswell, New Mexico.
Paul grew up in Roswell, graduated from Roswell High School in 1949, received the Bachelors of Music Degree in 1953 and Masters Degree in 1957 from Eastern New Mexico University.
He married Virginia Marie Rudolph on 5 June 1954 and spent nearly 54 years with her until she passed away. They had three sons; James Richard, Donald Alan and Douglas Edward. The grandchildren are Jonathan Roy (deceased), Bethany Denise, Matthew Ryan, Jacob Trent, Andrew Douglas, Christopher Edward, Sarah Katherine and Emily Marie. Our greatest joy was the yearly Reunions with our family.
Paul was married to Mary H Rasmussen on June 9, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Midland, Texas.
Paul played trombone starting in the 5th grade and spent many years studying music. He was a Band Director in the following communities; Dora and Causey, New Mexico, Roswell, New Mexico and Winslow Arizona, all for thirty-five years.
He was the 313th Army Band with service from 19 August 1953 to 3 June 1955.
Paul was a board member or Elder and either directed or sang in the following church choirs. Trinity Methodist Church and First Methodist Church, Roswell, N.m., Winslow Methodist Church, Winslow Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas. He served all his churches in the ministries.
He became a DeMolay brother in Bob Kisker Chapter in 1946. He held offices and presented degree work in the following Masonic organizations; Winslow Lodge #13,PM, Temple Chapter #8, PH, Navajo Council #7, IM and Calvary Commandery #8 in Winslow, PEC and was member (OPC) of Thumb Butte York Rite College, Arizona. He also was awarded K.Y.C.H., Red Cross of Constantine and Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest.
In Texas he was a dual member of Acacia Lodge #1414 and Chaplain, Midland Lodge #623 and Treasurer. He was with dual membership and presented degree work in the following organizations; Keystone Chapter, PHP, Keystone Council, PTIM, Midland Commandery, PEC, Odessa Commandery #110, West Texas York Rite College #36, Governor 2012* and Permian Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Sovereign 2011.
Inurnment in the First Presbyterian Church columbarium will take place at 10:30am, Saturday, April 15, 2023 with a memorial service following at 11:00am.
