Paul Landis Scherzer, 84, of Midland moved on to Heaven on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church in Midland, Texas.Paul was born on October 21, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to William O. Scherzer, Sr., and Mary Wilkerson Scherzer. He graduated from Sul Ross State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and from the International School of Management with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He began his career as a geologist with Sinclair Oil. He also worked with Texas Oil and Gas until he went out on his own in 1976 and worked as an independent geologist for the remainder of his career.Paul married the love of his life, Jane Emily Enochs, in 1965 and was devoted to her in marriage until her death on August 28, 2000. Although he missed his wife every day, Paul continued to live his life to the fullest and with a joyful attitude. He continued his work as a geologist and his days were occupied by attending lunch several times a week with close friends.Paul’s greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren, attending more of his grandson’s baseball games then he could have ever imagined and delighting in all the pictures and videos of his granddaughter’s participation in gymnastics, ice skating and piano recitals.Paul was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, William O. Scherzer, Jr.Paul is survived by two sons, Edwin Monroe Scherzer and wife Robyn Radtke Scherzer and Grant Landis Scherzer, Sr., and his wife Tiffany Godby Scherzer; two grandchildren, Grant Landis Scherzer, Jr., and Sage Esther Scherzer; his sister, Deborah Scherzer Patterson and her children Erin Patterson Barton and Kyle Andrew Patterson, along with numerous other nephews and nieces.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be donated to Hospice of Midland or the American Heart Association.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
