Patsy Scott

Patsy Maria Scott was born on January 23, 1933, in Sonora, Texas, to Henry and Evelyn Roger.  She was the first of what would be nine children born into that household. She passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021, just a few days short of her 88^th birthday. On June 8, 1949, Patsy married Billy Scott (Scottie) in Big Spring, and they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage before he passed away in 2010.  They would have six children of their own.

Patsy leaves much more behind than just surviving family and friends.  To quote one of her sons, “She left a Godly legacy that has been passed down to her family and an impact that will never be forgotten.”  Anyone that knew her would wholeheartedly agree.  She loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was committed to honoring Him with her whole life.  She embodied just exactly what it was to be a Christian.  She consistently and faithfully displayed a life that represented Jesus.

Patsy’s commitment to Jesus came at an early age.  She learned to play the piano as a young girl and began playing in church around the age of fifteen.  She continued to play piano for Crestview Baptist Church in her early years, and for Baptist Temple, in the later years of her life.  She played beautifully and could play any piece of music and was also gifted to play the gospel songs she loved so well, whether she had the music in front of her or not.  Hundreds of people were blessed by her God-given talent.

Patsy also had a beautiful soprano voice.  When her sisters still lived in Big Spring, she, along with Becky and Mary, would sing beautiful trio specials at their home church—Crestview Baptist Church.  Their music blessed the congregation every time they sang for their Lord.  Patsy’s love and talent for music was passed on to some of her children who continue to use their abilities in church ministries.  Those hours of piano lessons at home paid off.

Far more than music, Patsy Scott loved the Word of God.  Hardly was there a time that you could visit her home and not find an open bible on the kitchen table.  She would sit there for hours to read and study God’s Word.  She was a faithful student and teacher of the bible.  She taught Sunday School for decades and taught scores of teenagers at Crestview in the old Sunday night Training Union classes.  Many of those kids she taught have continued in the ministry in some capacity.  She also greatly influenced her pastors in helping them learn more about the Lord in His Word.  Her legacy lives on through many people!

She not only took her own kids to Sunday School and church, but she made sure her nieces and nephews got there as well.  One of the nieces said, “As consistent as the sun rise, she would pick us up for Sunday School.  Never mind the fact that was literally no room left in her car.”  That was the spirit of Patsy Scott—get the kids to church!

Patsy was a wonderful mother, a loving wife, an excellent musician, and budding artist, and expert seamstress, and a spiritual leader to many, many people.  Only heaven can tell of the vast reach of her godly influence.  Everyone that knew her loved her—and she loved them.  Her life will be lived on in all the lives she touched.  Patsy Scott will be missed but not forgotten!

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy; two sons: Ronnie and Kenny; two sisters: Barbara and Nancy; and two brothers: Billy and Jimmy.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Newell of Big Spring; and three sons: Bill and his wife Cherylann of Big Spring, David and his wife Debbie of Aledo, and Jamie and his wife Janet of Big Spring; and one daughter-in-law, Helen Scott of Big Spring. She is also survived by two sisters: Mary and Becky; and two brothers, Bobby and Tommy. Patsy is also survived by many grand and great-grand kids as well as numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews.

Patsy will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at Baptist Temple Church with graveside services to follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
