Patsy Anaya

Patsy Anaya, 77 years old of Midland, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Branch at npw, 3800 N. Big Spring Street in Midland.

Patsy was born on February 7, 1947 in Clovis, New Mexico to Sunday and Hazel Murrell Martinez.  Patsy lived a simple but rich life with her husband, Izzy, whom she fondly referred to as “Fatso” (due to his muscular physique).  His endearment to her was “Punkin” (due to her auburn hair and cute freckles).  She often shared many fond memories of her upbringing.  Her eldest sister, Florence practically her second mom to her 3 brothers and youngest sister, Alicia made many fond memories with a hard-working mother and father, a WWII veteran.  One particularly profound memory she shared was the simplicity of her appreciation of the basics of family and enjoying taking her turn to take a small handful from the “Birthday-crumb” tin in her Catholic School class on her birthday.  As a teenager, she and her youngest sister, Alicia lived a spell in Inglewood, California where they attended school and learned all the newest and latest dances.  She later returned to Clovis to be bridesmaid for her closest cousin’s wedding.  Upon entering a local beauty pageant, she was introduced to the dapper Mr. Music, Izzy Anaya and later married shortly before he was drafted to the Army in 1966.  They created a life and started a family that span from Clovis, Las Cruces and eventually they landed in Midland, Texas raising their little family.  She was a dedicated, patient and most gentle mother and encouraged her children to be loving, caring, calm and faith filled.  Patsy and Izzy enjoyed singing in the church choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe, volunteering in Marriage Encounter, Church crusillos, and playing volleyball on the weekends.  Patsy loved to dance with her Fatso anywhere, anytime! They danced as one until her Fatso went to be with the Lord in 2014.

She is survived by their two children, Mitsy and Peter; son-in-law, George Veloz, II; two granddaughters, Divinity and Ivy; grand son-in-law, ML Reyna; Divi’s fiancé, Nancy Lopez, two great-grandchildren, Mila and “Ro” along with sister, Florence Barela; nieces, April, Susie, and Kathy, Mara; nephew, Chuck and his wife, Jaime Robles and all their children, Patrick, Brandon, Bradley, Marissa, Lauren, and Lil’ Chuck along with Barela family and Anaya family, Paul, Frank & LaLa, Dale and their children.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Izzy; parents, Sunday and Hazel Martinez; sister, Alicia Robles; brothers Jimmy, William, and Herman Murillo.

Patsy was private in life and in death but such a graceful and faithful woman who loved from afar. She will be missed yet, free and reunited with her Fatso and gracefully dancing before the Lord.  The Anaya and Veloz family would especially like to thank the Davis and Harris family, Jesse Lopez, Hospice Staff, Visiting Angels, and all our friends for all their love and support.
