Patricia Brophy Whitten, 87, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2025.   She was born October 16, 1937 in Houston the daughter of Margaret (Doyle) Brophy and Martin Brophy, Sr.   She was raised in the Houston Heights and graduated from St. Agnes Academy.  She met the love of her life James C. Whitten on a blind date and seven months later they were married on November 16, 1957.  Pat and Jim lived in Lubbock, Hobbs, Snyder and Monahans before settling in Midland and raising four children.  They enjoyed camping as a family and traveling throughout the United States.   She enjoyed planning family birthday parties and Valentine’s Day parties, playing games, and hitting jackpots on slot machines.

She is preceded in death by her husband James C. Whitten, her daughter Dawn Marie Howard, twin brother Martin Brophy, Jr and brother John Patrick Brophy.

Patricia is survived by her daughters Aileen Lands and Natalie Schwarz along with son Chris Whitten and his wife Julie.  Also mourning her passing are son-in-law Randy Howard and her twelve grandchildren: Blake Howard, Kyle Weir, Clay Weir, Amanda Brower, Megan Nolan, Alex Howard, Whitney Hildebrand, Ross Schwarz, Annalise Griffice, Alice Whitten, Thomas Whitten, Mary Grace Whitten along with spouses and 16 great grandchildren.   She is also survived by her sister Peggy Bush (Leighton) along with sisters-in-law Sandra Brophy and Bertha Brophy.

Patricia was a ray of sunshine and always had a smile on her face.   She loved her family, and they loved her.

A visitation will begin at 6 PM on Wednesday May 28, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home at 3800 N. Big Spring Street, with a Rosary following at 7 PM.   Funeral service will be Thursday May 29, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church located at 1906 W. Texas Avenue.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staff at the Cowden Cottage at Manor Park and also Hospice of Midland.

My siblings and I became members of Pat's family when our brother Randy married her daughter Dawn. Pat welcomed each of us as if we were her own. For years she has sent us cards for our birthdays and Christmas, including notes which were so much fun to read. It was if she was right there with us, having a great conversation, and lighting up our lives in the process. I miss you, Pat!

Patricia was more than a mother-in-law to me, she was a "bonus" Mama. I loved our visits, both in person and on the phone. She always had a positive attitude, a smile on her face, and made me feel like I was a part of the family. When I was welcomed into the family via marriage to Dawn, Mama's first born, my life was definitely changed for the better. I love you, Mama, and I'll forever cherish our time together.
